Teaching Learning

Gifted and Talented Programme

Mercy Catholic College provides a nurturing and supportive environment in which gifted and talent students can develop their potential and become self-motivated, lifelong learners.

The College, recognises giftedness as a broad concept that encompasses various abilities, including intellectual, creative, leadership, social and physical skills.

The identification of gifted and talented students is achieved in conjunction with teachers, parents, careers and the wider community.

Professional development plays a significant role in ensuring a pedagogical approach to educating gifted and talented students. Our teachers select and implement a variety of teaching strategies for inclusion in programmes, to enhance the knowledge and skills of gifted students.

At Mercy we focus on providing curriculum differentiation, this involves intellectually challenging programmes, flexible access to technology and learning spaces, extra time to pursue interests, compacting the curriculum and accelerating individuals.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in extension programmes and have access to a wide variety of enrichment activities such as; debating, competitions, Olympiads and clubs.

Through our gifted and talented programme students demonstrate persistence, independence, flexibility and motivation toward their studies.
