About Mercy Catholic College

Sisters of Mercy

From the original foundation house in Baggot Street, many different Sisters of Mercy foundations were established under the same Rule in Great Britain, Newfoundland, the United States, the Philippines, New Zealand and Australia.

From these seven locations, the sisters and their associates have established ministries on all continents.

Today, throughout the world, the Sisters of Mercy are primarily known for their ministries of care for the sick, aged and children, and teaching.

In Australia, there are many different communities of Sisters of Mercy. Indeed, in 1890 Mercy Catholic College, then known as St. Catherine's, was established by one of these communities - The Sisters of Mercy of Monte Sant' Angelo based at North Sydney.

Mercy Catholic College is a member of the Australasian Mercy Secondary Schools Association and as such has strong links with all Mercy schools in Sydney, throughout Australia and internationally.

Other Mercy secondary schools in Sydney are Monte Sant Angelo, OLMC Parramatta, Catherine McAuley Westmead and OLMC Burraneer.
